January 2, Challenge 2 #JanuaryJourney #ready

Happy Day Two of the new year!!  This January Journey I am taking has already encountered a “challenge to my challenge.”  Within two hours of publishing my first blog post for 2018, one of my toddler twins became very ill… so this second day’s post is a little later in the day than I intended, but seems a very fitting reminder that we never know what a day will bring.  That was the premise for this challenge in the first place, so even though the illness was not welcomed, the confirmation of what I am doing is gratefully accepted!

January 2, Challenge 2:  Choose your mate!  If you’re married, engaged, or in a relationship, then you have either made that choice already or are considering it.  But the choosing of your mate isn’t just a one-time event.  It is a day to day, week to week, year to year choice… to stay faithful to that person, to show love in action, to stay with it through the easy and the hard, sickness and health, and so on.

My husband is a wonderful mate and father, but sometimes we cross each other in the hall late at night, each of us trying to convince a one-year-old to fall asleep, and then we both collapse without me having said at any point in that day, “I choose you today.”  I love my mate, and he deserves fresh reminders from me of how much I love him, how much he means to me, and the reasons I’m glad I chose him.

I don’t know where your relationship with your mate stands today on January 2, but it might be worth a reminder today that you choose him/her, anew and again, for 2018.  If you don’t have a mate, then this is still the perfect time to join me on this 31-day challenge.  The better prepared you are to live a quality life, the better prepared you will be for a healthy, meaningful relationship in the future.

..but I found him whom my soul loveth      Song of Solomon 3:4
